We are delighted to announce our new League Sponsor - Preston Tuition Centre!
Preston Tuition Centre is the place that guarantees your tuition to come from a fully qualified teacher in the subject area that you are seeking assistance with.
This Cup was introduced in the 2010/11 season to replace the retired Presidents Cup in memory of 15 year old Mark Bottomley who sadly passed away 3 days before his 16th birthday.
Mark from Chorley was deputy head boy at Southlands School,Chorley, where he excelled academically and in various sports including football and basketball.
He was found unconscious in bed by his mother on the 30th December 2010 and could not be revived.
In the days leading up to his death Mark had been suffering from a cough and a slight temperature.
Mark played football for Chorley based Clubs Gillibrand Warriors and Charnock Richard where he was in his last season at under 16s.
A benefit match between his former Clubs was arranged following his sad passing.
Mark Fowle headteacher at Southlands paid tribute to Mark citing his all round sports ability and academic achievements. He was predicted to do extremely well in the forthcoming GCSEs exams in 2011.But what stood out about Mark was his popularity, his helplessness, and what a good role model he made for younger pupils.
Following consultation with Marks parents this Cup was commissioned and played for that year 2011 for the first time.
Once again a trophy named in memory of a past serving committee member following his passing in the year of 1999.
Leonard or Lennie Belsham was a character of whom one doesn’t see in football today. He was a Wolverhampton Wanderers season ticket holder and football thru and thru.
I personally got to know him through a junior under 14 team years before the CLJFL started.
He was manager of Farington Villa under 14s who he guided to the final of the Lancs FA cup final played at the side of Bury FC Gigg Lanes Ground.
Lenny was instrumental in being involved in the setting up of this League way back in 1978/79.
Over the years with this League he was Registration Secretary between 1981-1996,Vice Chairman in 1994,and in between time found the time to referee from 1981 until bad health curtailed his involvement in 1998.
Following his passing in 1999 the Len Belsham Memorial Cup was introduced in that season 1999- 2000 with the first winners being Shake Vaults and has been played for since with the original trophy still being presented at every Cup Final since.
This Cup was introduced into the CLJFL in season 2021-22 after the hardship of dealing with the COVID pandemic and no Cup Finals were played in 2020 and 2021.
As the name suggests it is named in honour of John Harrison a local sports retailer whose business started in Leyland in 1970.John was involved with the League firstly by supplying medals and trophies from the late 1980s until the present day.
John was our President serving the League between 1994 until retiring in 2003.
As stated the Cup was commissioned in 2022 with the first winners being Myerscough Reds playing the final tie at Walton le Dale Recreation Ground and the Cup being first presented by his grandson Lloyd Harrison.
