Once again a trophy named in memory of a past serving committee member following his passing in the year of 1999.
Leonard or Lennie Belsham was a character of whom one doesn’t see in football today. He was a Wolverhampton Wanderers season ticket holder and football thru and thru.
I personally got to know him through a junior under 14 team years before the CLJFL started.
He was manager of Farington Villa under 14s who he guided to the final of the Lancs FA cup final played at the side of Bury FC Gigg Lanes Ground.
Lenny was instrumental in being involved in the setting up of this League way back in 1978/79.
Over the years with this League he was Registration Secretary between 1981-1996,Vice Chairman in 1994,and in between time found the time to referee from 1981 until bad health curtailed his involvement in 1998.
Following his passing in 1999 the Len Belsham Memorial Cup was introduced in that season 1999- 2000 with the first winners being Shake Vaults and has been played for since with the original trophy still being presented at every Cup Final since.
